Before we can fly our drones, the STEAM teams have been learning about and practicing principles of flight: lift, thrust, and drag. Winners of the initial flight challenge were Kaleb and Cadie, who created the most economical aircraft, capable of going the greatest distance, with the heaviest payload.
For the rotor challenge, testing which rotor design could stay aloft longest, the winners were Timber and Cale.
Stay tuned for videos of our drone flights!

LAST WEEK: 7th grade was busy with sweet solutions; learning how temperature, pressure, stirring, and surface area affect the rate of how quickly a solute goes into a solvent to make a solution. Sugar cubes were crushed and stirred among other things to observe the differences. Students were also intrigued to watch a demonstration by Mr. Wise observing a styrofoam cup floating on water, but dissolving in acetone. So the type of solvent makes a difference too!
